What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is an aesthetic surgical procedure to remove unwanted body fat, and involves sucking out small areas of fat that are hard to lose through exercise and/or a healthy diet alone.

Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty. Liposuction can be performed on nearly every area of the body that is notorious for storing stubborn fat. It is an excellent way of eliminating fat.

After liposuction treatment, patients may expect improved body proportion and slimmer contouring.

Who is a good candidate for Liposuction?

If you are healthy, still struggling with fat distribution unrelated to your weight or physical fitness you may be a good candidate for liposuction. Liposuction patients should be non-smokers and should have relatively firm skin and muscle tone. 

Liposuction Procedure

When you go in for your liposuction treatment, you will first be given sedative or anesthesia for your comfort.

A small incision in patients problem area is made, in which a thin tube called a cannula or microcannula is inserted; and loosen the fat from the fat pockets.

Finally, vacuum suctioning will remove the fat from your body through the cannula to permanently eliminate fat cells. Suctioning out as much up to 8 kg of fat per session.

Patients with good skin elasticity are considered to be the best candidates for liposuction.

If you have a lot of loose, drooping skin, liposuction probably isn’t the procedure you need to address your problem areas, but a tummy tuck, arm lift or body lift may be.

How long does liposuction procedure take?
Liposuction may take between one hour and several hours to complete. The length of your procedure will be influenced by the number of treatment areas and the amount of fat to be removed.

What to expect after liposuction procedure?

You’ll awake from your procedure wearing a compression garment to reduce swelling, as well as drains at your incision sites.

Once you are released to go home, you’ll be discharged with specific instructions for at-home care and returning visits to the doctor for follow-up and bandage removal. Be sure to take all prescribed medications as directed by your doctor, and call your doctor immediately if you experience any chest pains or shortness of breath following your surgery.
