Fat injection is the transfer of fat from one part of the body to another part for filling. Fat injection is usually applied to fill the hollows in the body contours, to reduce the prominence of the lines that occur due to aging in the face area, to give a plump, aesthetic appearance to thin faces and to plump the lips.

Distortions in body contours can be caused either by a structural problem, i.e. some diseases, or by uncontrolled fat removal by liposuction. Weakness or deficiency in the subcutaneous fat tissue that surrounds the body is reflected in the external appearance of the body, creating an unaesthetic irregular appearance in the body contours. With fat injection, a better appearance can be achieved by injecting fat into areas where fat is low or weak.

Face and cheek augmentation

Fat injection is applied to reduce the prominence of facial lines that are most pronounced due to aging. This procedure performed on the facial area does not stop aging, that is, it does not eliminate the cause, it only camouflages aging by making the appearance a little younger. Lines on the face become more prominent with age. It is not possible to stop the flow of time and as a result, the facial tissues loosen, cannot resist gravity and begin to sag. The lines that appear due to sagging tissues can be removed with aesthetic facelift surgery, while fat injection can only camouflage this appearance. Fat injection can be performed at the same time with facelift surgery. If there is a need for cheek augmentation, if procedures requiring tissue removal from the body are performed at the same time, a tissue cocktail can be prepared and injected, since it is possible to use the tissues left over from the surgery other than fat. The results are much more striking and permanent in combined procedures.

Lip plumping

Fat injection can also be applied for lip augmentation. A more aesthetic and fuller appearance can be given to the face by injecting around the mouth, cheeks, chin and forehead. Similarly, a fuller lip can be created with injections into the lips.

How is fat injection performed?

The fat to be used for fat injection is removed by liposuction. The fat can be taken from anywhere where there is excess fat tissue such as the belly, buttocks, legs, etc. in an amount to meet the need. The procedure is planned under local or general anesthesia depending on the size of the procedure. Fat injection is not a painful procedure, not much pain is felt. In the place where the fat is injected, there is both swelling caused by the fat and edema swelling together. Sometimes bruising can also be seen. Swelling and bruising caused by edema resolves within 7-10 days. Within 6 months after the injection, almost half of the fat given melts and is absorbed from the body. In other words, it gives half waste. The rest is permanent. If a tissue cocktail is made, the wastage rate is less.
